Dr. Lander upon being located after Incident-038-500. |
Name: Dr. Lander
Security Clearance: Gamma
Duties: Recovery agent, field evaluation.
History
Dr. Lander was originally part of the SCP Foundation serving as a Mobile Task Force member in the squad Delta-█ ("███████"). During a Chaos Insurgency raid at a G2 Site, Dr. Lander was found laying down in a service tunnel, holding what appears to be the remains of the commander of Delta-█.
Upon taking Dr. Lander into custody, he was found to have been infected with SCP-008. After Dr. Kaller had reviewed his Foundation file, he had decided to allow Dr. Lander to be healed by the ████ ██ ███████, stating that Lander could prove useful to the CI.
Dr. Lander has expressed disinterest in documenting and researching items, and prefers to assist in raids and recovery missions. He has proven to be a valuable asset to the CI. He has been very talkative with other site members, often playing practical jokes on other personnel.
After 13 months of service, Dr. Lander was assigned to a stealth mission which involved sneaking into an SCP Foundation site and creating copies of SCP-500 through SCP-038 (See Incident Report 038-500 for details). Upon being sent into the site contact was lost with him for five months. He was eventually found in the █████ Desert, approximately 200 kilometers away from the site he was assigned to. Upon recovery, he stated that he doesn't remember anything from the past few months.
After this incident staff had noticed that Dr. Lander had started to become less talkative as the months went on. He had begun to take overnight overnight shifts and decline participation in raids. Personnel requested that Dr. Lander undergo psychiatric therapy, which has been approved and undergone. Within a few weeks personnel noted that Dr. Lander had begun returning to his former self. Reason for previous behaviour is assumed to relate to the events of incident 038-500.
Despite Dr. Lander's recovery, personnel have requested on several occasions for him to be revoked of his Delta clearance, to which Dr. Kaller has denied every request. Seven months after the events of document 038-500, Dr. Lander was promoted to Gamma clearance.

60 x 25 x 40 cm |
Usage Precautions: |
All tests must be overviewed by no fewer then two researchers. |
Handling Precautions: |
Should any anomalous activity be detected by surveillance cameras, all materials intended for testing purposes may be dispatched into the chamber immediately. |
Location: |
Facility-42, Cell Block 4C |
|
Every variant of the object. |
Object Class: Xeno
Interest Level: High
Usage
Any and all recyclable materials not being used for any further projects may be delivered to Facility-42 for use with the object. Once a test has been approved by a Beta-class research officer, several resources may be placed into the object's containment chamber along with an expendable utility in order to be refined. Once the object has completed the refinement process, two (or more depending on size of the object) security officers may enter the chamber to recover the newly created utility.
Items that can be refined are limited to basic tools and weapons. Any chemical, biological, or electrical-powered tools are strictly forbidden from use.
Usage
Item consists of a horde of approximately one-hundred and twenty (120) small mechanical clockwork-like automated pieces of construction equipment. They appear to be made from copper, though attempts at analyzing its composition have been inconclusive.
When the machines are left alone, their anomalous properties become active. They will commence gathering any form of materials within a 1 kilometer radius and begin constructing either an object or building, the size and construction time of which is dependent on the amount and types of materials they have gathered. These can range from a new form of tool or small utility, to large machines and buildings.
In addition they have often been known to further revise their construction until any new materials are present. Often re-arrange aspects or reconstructing parts of buildings entirely. It should also be noted that most large scale structures that are constructed don't have a form of entrance and often fall apart after 15-20 minutes due to lack of support beams.
Analogs
The item consist of 4 different work classes, each performing a different task during construction phase.
The Steam Shovel: Has the ability to pick up rocks and soil as well as dig underground for hidden materials. The edges of the shovel are capable of breaking through 20 cm of cement. It can move remarkably fast on its feet and can carry up to 20 kilograms of materials at a time.
The Bulldozer: Often used to gather materials and sort them into piles. If one encounters an object that is more than 10 kilograms, it will send off a high frequency sound wave that is undetectable by the human ear. Upon transmitting the sound, several other workers will surround the object and assist in moving it.
They have shown to be slow on their feet, only reaching speeds of .2 meters per second. Their max speed will become even slower if they are carrying an object. This means that it can take up to one hour for one to retrieve several materials.
The Foreman: This is the primary class used for making the constructions themselves. Their 'claws' have been observed to produce an unknown substance which can cause any object they hold to become magnetically charged, regardless of whether or not the object is a conductor. This allows each object to connect with each other in order to hold the construction in place.
They have been known to move at speeds of up to 20 meters per second. Their feet appear to be corroded in the same substance that is produced on their claws, allowing them to climb any surface.
The Forklift: Is mostly used for picking up objects which are too heavy for the Bulldozer class. It can lift up to approximately 40 kilograms and can travel at a rate of 5 meters per second, regardless of the size of the material it is carrying.
Appendix A: Recovery Log
Item was recovered by a deep-sea submarine in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of ██ ███, ███████. The ship's radar had detected a huge building the machines had been constructing, approximately over 800 cubic meters in size. Considering how slow they generally are, it was calculated that it would have taken them ███ years to have completed it to the scale observed.
The machines were all eventually recovered by the SCP Foundation and we set to be delivered to one of their site via a ship disguised as the USS ██████████. Before the ship could depart from the dock, several recovery agents and task forces managed to intercept the ship and raid it of its supplies. The machines were then brought to Facility-69A for further testing until being assigned a permanent storage.
Appendix B
During a routine check-up of the containment chamber, security guards stationed outside the chamber reported that the items had begun tearing apart several "Steam Shovel"-class workers. Their parts were arranged on the floor to spell out "FEED US DON'T LET US STARVE".
Following this incident, items were upgraded to a containment chamber containing a surveillance camera. The generally accepted hypothesis is that the machines use construction as a form of nutrition in order to function. This is backed up by the fact that this incident occurred after 2 months on inactivity, the longest the item has not had since.
Due to this, items are ensure to be given resources to use a minimum of once per month. As of now no further behaviour outside of this incident have been recorded.
